WACO, Texas - Following a 6-0 start to the season, Baylor football is ranked at No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 6 in the AP Top 25 released on Sunday.
The No. 5 ranking in the coaches poll is Baylor's highest in any poll since being ranked No. 3 by the AP in 1953. The AP ranking is the highest for the Bears since also being No. 6 on Jan. 1, 1980.
Baylor continues to be the highest ranked Big 12 Conference team in both polls, after achieving the feat for the first time in league history last week.
BU is 6-0 for the first time since 1980 and 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 1985, after its 71-7 win over Iowa State on Saturday.
The Bears earned 1,189 points from voters in the AP poll, after ranking at No. 12 last week with 849 points.
Baylor's 1,255 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll are up from 890 points and a No. 12 ranking last week.
The first set of official BCS rankings will released Sunday evening.
The Bears will now travel to Lawrence, Kan., for a 6 p.m. contest vs. the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. That game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
