WACO, Texas - Baylor football is No. 8 in the first edition of the Bowl Championship Series standings released Sunday, the Bears' highest ranking in the 16-year history of the BCS.
Baylor's previous high ranking was No. 12 in the final BCS standings of 2011, released prior to BU's win in the Alamo Bowl.
There are three components to the BCS standings: the Harris Poll, the USA Today Coaches Poll and the computer rankings. Baylor is fifth in both the Harris and coaches poll, while being ranked 12th by a computer average.
The Bears are currently the highest ranked Big 12 team in the BCS Standings and the highest ranked team from the state of Texas.
Baylor will now travel to Lawrence, Kan., for a 6 p.m. contest vs. the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. That game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
