WACO, Texas – Baylor sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin III has been named a semifinalist for the 2010 Maxwell Award, as announced Monday by the Maxwell Football Club.
RG3 is listed on three national football award watch lists. He was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award on Oct. 25, and he’s on the watch list for the Manning Award, which will be narrowed to 10 finalists Nov. 29.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the nation’s most outstanding collegiate football player since 1937. It is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell.
The field of 16 semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 22. The Maxwell Award winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9.
Griffin III leads the Big 12 and ranks third nationally in total offense, is second in the Big 12 and third nationally in passing yards and ranks second in the Big 12 in passing efficiency. His 164 points responsible for leads the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally.
A native of Copperas Cove, Texas, RG3 is Baylor’s all-time leader in passing efficiency (157.18), passing touchdowns (39), completion percentage (63.6) and touchdown responsibility (61). His season totals of 2,859 passing yards and 3,275 yards of total offense are both program records. He is on track to graduate with a political science degree in December, just three years after enrolling at Baylor after graduating high school a semester early.
