Football's Linwood Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Nov. 11, 2013

IRVING, Texas - Baylor running back Shock Linwood was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

The Linden, Texas, product rushed for 182 yards on 23 carries in Baylor's 41-12 win over No. 12 Oklahoma on Thursday. Filling in for injured feature backs Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin, Linwood racked up all his carries and yards in the final three quarters of play, including 16 rushes for 143 yards in the second half and 11 carries for 83 yards in the fourth quarter.

The redshirt freshman averaged 7.9 yards per carry and picked up eight first downs to help BU post 255 rushing yards vs. the Sooners. His rushing total was the 13th-most in single-game Baylor history and third-most by any Big 12 player this year. Linwood has now eclipsed 100 yards rushing in three games.

Linwood is BU's second offensive Big 12 weekly award winner of the season, joining Seastrunk (Oct. 7). This is only the second time the Bears have had multiple offensive players recognized in the same season. BU last accomplished the feat in 2011 when Robert Griffin III and Terrance Ganaway won the honor a combined four times. In total, Baylor has had eight offensive players honored a combined 13 times since 2002.

On Sunday, Athlon Sports named Linwood its Big 12 Freshman of the Week. It was the second time this year that he had received the honor, after also being recognized on Oct. 27 following a 106-yard performance on nine carries at Kansas.

BU is off to an 8-0 start to the season for the first time in program history and a 5-0 league start for the first time since 1985. The Bears are ranked No. 4 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. That AP ranking is Baylor's highest since 1953. The Bears are fifth in the latest edition of the BCS Standings.

Baylor will take on Texas Tech on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. That game will start at 6 p.m. and be broadcast on FOX. For tickets to the game contact the Baylor Ticket Office at 254-710-1000 or visit:
