FORT WORTH, Texas - Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has been named one of three finalists for the 2011 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. The finalists were revealed on ESPNU's second annual The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special.
RG3 is joined by Houston's Case Keenum and Stanford's Andrew Luck as finalists chosen by The O'Brien National Selection Committee, with fan vote accounting for five percent of the total vote. The committee considered quarterback skills, academics, character, leadership and sportsmanship.
Through 10 games, RG3 has passed for a school-record 3,572 yards and 33 touchdowns, while throwing only five interceptions and completing 72.9 percent of his passes. He's also rushed for 550 yards and five touchdowns, while no other player in the nation has more than 3,500 passing yards and more than 100 rushing yards.
RG3 leads the nation in total offense (412.2 yards per game) and points responsibility (23.0 points per game) and ranks second nationally with a 191.65 passing efficiency.
Griffin III has led Baylor to a 7-3 record and a No. 18 ranking in the BCS Standings, which is the highest the Bears have ever been ranked in the BCS. He's earned National Player of the Week awards twice this season - after leading Baylor to a 50-48 win over then-No. 14 TCU on Sept. 2 and after leading the Bears to a 45-38 win over then-No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday.
