Dec. 8, 2011
WACO, Texas - Eleven Baylor football student-athletes were named to The Associated Press All-Big 12 teams, as selected by a panel of 17 sports writers and announced Thursday.
Robert Griffin III, a junior Heisman Trophy finalist, was named the AP's Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year by the AP, and senior receiver Kendall Wright joined him on the first team. Seniors Terrance Ganaway and Philip Blake earned second-team honors.
Baylor's four selections between the first and second teams tie the school record set in 2004. The Bears have had multiple selections to the first team in all four years during the Art Briles era and have combined for 10 first-team honorees in those four years. Baylor combined for five first-team selections in 12 years of Big 12 play prior to Briles' arrival.
The Bears had seven honorable mention selections on the AP team: seniors Elliot Coffey, Robert T. Griffin and Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, juniors Mike Hicks and Terrance Williams and sophomores Sam Holl and K.J. Morton.
Baylor had 17 players named All-Big 12 by the league's coaches on Wednesday, including Griffin III as the coaches' Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
No. 12 Baylor (9-3, 6-3) closes out the 2011 season by taking on Washington (7-5, 5-4) in the Valero Alamo Bowl at 8 p.m. CST on Dec. 29 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Baylor has sold out its allotment of tickets for the game, but tickets can still be purchased through via www.alamobowl.com.
