Baylor (-4, 572) enters Sunday's final 18 holes 13 strokes back of tournament leader, No. 3 Texas (-17, 559). The Bears are two strokes ahead of third place Charlotte (-2, 574), while Houston (E, 576) and Louisiana Tech (+2, 578) round out the top five teams.
"I thought we hung in there," head coach Greg Priest said. "I thought Mikkel (Bjerch-Andresen) played really well today, so that was really good to see him get an under-par round and hold on to it."
Filippo Zucchetti (-4, 140) is tied for fifth individually and leads the Bears after shooting 1-under-par 71 in the second round. Sophomores Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and Niclas Mansson are both tied for 14th at 1-under-par 143, while Kyle Jones and Ryan O' Rear are tied for 33rd at 2-over-par 146. O'Rear is competing as an individual along with Matthew Seligmann, who is tied for 40th with a two-day total of 3-over-par 147. Andreas Gjesteby is at 12-over 156 after shooting 76 on Saturday.
"We are a young team," Priest said. "I like where we are headed, and the more experience we get the better and better we will get as a team. The key is just staying patient and sticking with the game plan that we've got. Texas played great today and definitely got some good separation from the field, but our goal is just to go out and control what we can and that is to stick to our game plan and see what happens."
The final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Championship will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday. Gjesteby will begin on the third hole, while Jones and Mansson will tee off from No. 2 and Zucchetti and Bjerch-Andresen will start from the first tee. Seligmann and O'Rear will both begin their rounds on No. 17. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
