ORLANDO, Fla. - Baylor shot a 5-over 293 during the final round, but the Bears were unable to gain any ground on the tournament leader, finishing tied for eighth place Tuesday at the Rio Pinar Invitational. The men's golf team finished at 15-over 879, sharing eighth place with Kentucky.

The Bears finished 28 strokes behind Rio Pinar champion and host UCF. The Knights shot an 8-under 280 over the final 18 holes to clinch the win. UT Arlington finished second overall at 1-over 865, followed by Louisville (6-over 870) in third and Augusta State, Vanderbilt and Mississippi in a three-way tie for fourth place (7-over 871).

"We were rusty and nervous during the first round Monday," Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest said. "But, we played much better in the second round. With three freshmen, one sophomore and one senior in the lineup, our inexperience showed.

"I did like our attitude throughout the tournament and the way we hung in there," Priest said.

UCF's Blayne Barber claimed individual medalist honors, carding a 12-under 204. UT Arlington's Bobby Massa finished two strokes behind Barber at 10-under 206.

Sophomore Cody Paladino posted Baylor's highest individual showing, finishing tied for 18th overall at 2-over 218. After firing a 5-over 77 in the first round, Paladino rebounded with a 3-under 69 in the second before shooting an even-par 72 in the final round Tuesday. Senior Bill Allcorn shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to finish tied for 27th at 4-over 220.

Norwegian freshmen Joakim Mikkelsen (6-over 222) and Morten Bergan (8-over 224) finished tied for 41st and 53rd place, respectively. Mikkelsen, who carded a 1-under 71 second-round score Monday, shot a 5-over 77 in the final round, while Bergan shot an even-par 72 Tuesday. Redshirt freshman Lorenzo Scotto finished tied for 75th place with a 12-over 228).

The Baylor men's golf team returns to the links Friday, March 6, when it participates in the USF Invitational in Dade City, Fla. The 54-hole tournament will last through Sunday, March 8.
