Baylor Men's Golf Tied For Lead at Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational

NAPLES, Fla. - Baylor senior Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) continued his hot streak and is tied for the individual lead, while the Bears men's golf team is tied for the team lead, after the first two rounds of the Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational Monday at the 6,879-yard, par-72 Hammock Bay Country Club.

Baca fired a 4-under par 68 in the opening round, followed by a 2-under par 70 for a total of 6-under par 138. He is tied with Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers, who shot a 6-under par 66, followed by an even-par 72. Baca is seeking his second straight victory after setting the 54-hole school record and leading Baylor to its second team title of the season last week at the UTSA Intercollegiate.

Junior Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas), who was the runner-up at the event last year, is alone in 10th at 1-under par 143. He carded a 2-under par 70 in the first round, then shot 73.

Junior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) and sophomore Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) are each tied for 11th at even-par 144. Both opened with a 76, but rebounded with rounds of 4-under par 68.

Sophomore Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) was solid in both rounds and is alone in 20th at 2-over par 146. He opened with a 74 before following with an even-par 72.

As a team, the Bears shot even-par 288 to start the day, before catching fire and posting a 10-under par 278 for a total of 566 to tie with Wake Forest. The Demon Decons were one stroke behind the Bears after the first round with a 289, but shot 11-under par 277 in the second for 566. The two teams are five strokes ahead of third-place Florida State at 571, Illinois State is in fourth at 578, while Notre Dame rounds out the top five at 582.

The tournament concludes with the third and final round Tuesday.
