Sophomore Ryan Baca shot opening rounds of 70 and 72 to open play at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate and stands 14th after 36 holes. Baylor (296-295=591) shot 15-over par and is tied for 16th after day one.
Host Texas (556) leads the 18-team field by four strokes over Oklahoma State (560). UNLV (573) and Arizona State (573) are tied for fourth. TCU (577) is currently fifth, 21 strokes behind the Longhorns.
Senior Trevar Matheson (76-72=148) shot an even par 72 in the second round and is tied for 46th after 36 holes. Freshman Will McDonald (75-75=150) shot six over par and is tied for 59th.
Just one stroke behind McDonald is junior Will Doughtie (75-76=151), Doughtie is tied for 60th. Fellow Junior Jon Antunes (79-76=155) improved three strokes in his second round and currently is tied for 79th.
Baca and the Bears look to gain ground on the rest of the 18-team field when they play in the final round of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
