GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Baylor men's golf team finished in third place at the 2013 Desert Shootout with a 54-hole score of 2-under-par 850. Two Baylor players placed in the top 10 individually, with Niclas Mansson and Kyle Jones finishing tied for third and sixth, respectively.

The Bears (-2, 850) were in third going into the final round and they remained in that spot after shooting a final round of 3-over-par 287. Baylor finished behind BYU (-14, 838) and tournament host Denver (-4, 848). The Bears were eight strokes ahead of Wichita State and Southern Utah (+6, 858), who tied for fourth place overall.

"Well we still came up short, but we put ourselves in position," head coach Greg Priest. "I like the way they competed. It was good to see them compete today and try to win a tournament."

Mansson (-3, 210) finished tied for third place individually at 3-under-par 210, earning his second career top-5 finish. He shot 1-over-par 72 on Saturday and led the tournament with 14 birdies over the span of 54 holes. Jones (-2, 211) tied for sixth place after shooting 3-over-par 74 in the final round, recording his fifth career top-10 finish and third of the season.

"All and all it was a nice finish for them individually," Priest said. "They were definitely able to help us move up the leader board during the tournament, so that was good."

Sophomore Filippo Zucchetti (+1, 214) tied for 16th at 1-over-par following a final round of 2-over 73. Senior Matthew Seligmann (+6, 219) finished tied for 45th place, followed by Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen (+8, 221) who tied for 56th at 8-over-par. Andreas Gjesteby (+13, 228), competing as an individual, finished tied for 81st place.

"We need all five guys chipping in, so it was good to see everybody play close to par and not let anything get away from us," Priest said. "We just need to keep improving. We have a lot of things we need to get better at before the conference tournament."

Baylor next heads to Augusta, Ga., for the Augusta State Invitational, a two-day tournament that begins April 7.
