AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 8 Baylor men's golf team opened the day with a 296 in the morning and followed with a 302 and stand in 14th place after 36 holes Monday at the 6,906-yard, par-72 Austin Country Club.
Senior Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) opened with a 1-under par 71, but shot 76 in the afternoon and is tied for 41st at 147 to lead the Bears. Junior Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) shot 76 in the morning and 74 in the afternoon and is tied for 57th at 150.
Junior Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) is 82nd and shot 77 and 78 for 155. Sophomore Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) shot an even-par 72 to start the day, but carded an 84 and is tied for 83rd at 156. Junior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) opened with an 83 and rebounded with a 74 to tie for 87th at 157.
Oklahoma State leads the team competition at 10-under par 566 and leads Texas Tech (572) by six strokes, Oklahoma (573) by seven, Texas (574) by eight and BYU (575) by nine. SMU's Brandon DeStefano leads the individual competiton at 138, firing an opening round 65, followed by a 73.
The tournament concludes with the third and final round Tuesday morning.
