Men's Golf Places 13th at Augusta State

Ryan O'Rear's tied for the second-best score out of 225 rounds played in the tournament.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Baylor men's golf team finished in 13th place after shooting 3-over-par 291 in Sunday's final round at the 2013 Insperity Augusta State Invitational.

Baylor (+27, 891) finished just four strokes out of the top 10 in a field that included 12 teams ranked in the nation's top 50. The Bears were three strokes back of Illinois (+24, 888), and four back of Coastal Carolina (+23, 887) and Central Florida (+23, 887).

Senior Ryan O'Rear led the Bears with a 5-under-par final round that moved him up from 55th place entering the day to a tie for 23rd in the final individual standings. His final round 67 was his lowest score of the season and the second lowest of his career, and it also tied the second lowest score out of 225 rounds played in the tournament.

O'Rear's final round 67 was seven strokes better than his next closest teammate, Niclas Mansson (+12, 288), who shot 74 to finish tied for 57th place. Mikkel Bjerch-Andersen (+8, 224) finished tied for 42nd place. Filippo Zucchetti (+9, 225) was one stroke back in a tie for 45th place and Kyle Jones (+13, 229) tied for 62nd place.

The Bears return to action when they head to Texas' Morris Williams Intercollegiate, which will be played Saturday and Sunday in Austin, Texas. The event is Baylor's last tournament before heading to the Big 12 Championship, April 22-24 in Hutchinson, Kan.
