BRYAN, Texas –The 29th-ranked Baylor men’s golf team is in sixth place Saturday through two rounds at the Aggie Invitational.
Second-round play was suspended due to darkness with Texas Tech and Utah still on the course. The final two groups will finish the second round Sunday morning.
No. 13 Oregon is the first-day leader, seven strokes ahead of host and 15th-ranked Texas A&M. No. 28 Oklahoma is third at 41-over 761, followed by No. 1 Texas in fourth (43-over 763) and No. 30 Oklahoma State in fifth (49-over 769). Baylor finished the day at 57-over 777, eight strokes out of the top five.
Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki is the only golfer under-par at 1-under 143, taking a one-stroke lead over Oklahoma’s Charlie Saxon and New Mexico’s Victor Perez. Fourteen of the top 21 golfers hail from the Big 12 Conference.
Senior Joakim Mikkelsen, freshman Kyle Jones and redshirt freshman Niclas Mansson each shot 9-over 153 and are tied for 17th overall after 36 holes. Mikkelsen carded the low round of any Baylor golfer Saturday with a second-round 74.
Making his Baylor debut, freshman Filippo Zucchetti, playing as an individual, shot 10-over 154 and is tied for 22nd. Senior Drew McGee, also competing as an individual, is tied for 35th at 13-over 157. Senior Lorenzo Scotto was scratched from Baylor’s lineup with a thumb injury prior to the first round. Mansson took his place in the lineup, while Zucchetti took Mansson’s individual spot.
The final round of the Aggie Invitational will tee off at 8 a.m. CDT Sunday. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
