TRINITY, Texas - Sophomore Lorenzo Scotto carded a career-best 36-hole score, firing an 8-under 136, and is in third place Friday through two rounds of the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club.

Baylor's Scotto continues his impressive play of late and has now registered four consecutive sub-par rounds, dating back to last week's Aggie Invitational. After Scotto birdied hole No. 1 and bogeyed hole No. 2 to start the first round, he shot 8-under on the final 34 holes, carding eight birdies and saving par the rest of the way. The Pordenone, Italy, sophomore is 10-under par over the last 72 holes.

The Baylor men's golf team, which is ranked No. 50 in the latest Golfstat standings, shot 1-under (288-287=575) for the day and finds itself in sixth place. Texas A&M and Oklahoma State are tied atop the leaderboard after both teams fired 11-under scores. Texas is one shot behind the leaders in third at 10-under, while Texas Tech (5-under) and Kansas State (3-under) round out the top-five in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

"We played well in the first round and really shot the ball exceptionally well to start the afternoon," Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest said. "But, we let it slip towards the end of both rounds and we just to need to finish."

After 36 holes, the top five golfers all hail from a Texas school. Texas Tech's Chris Ward owns a one-shot lead at 10-under, while Texas' Bobby Hudson, who led after round one with a 64, is in second at 9-under.

Freshman Ryan O'Rear is tied for 14th overall at 1-under (72-71=143) and now has three consecutive rounds of par or better. Joakim Mikkelsen was one of two Bears with a sub-par first round, but shot 4-over in the second round to finish the day tied for 25th at 2-over (70-76=146).

"The bottom of our lineup gave us good production today," Priest said. "Ryan (O'Rear) had an excellent first day on the course and Lorenzo (Scotto) was outstanding. We have two more rounds to make a move."

Payne Gniewek (77-75=152) and Jerry Ruiz (78-74=152) are tied for 45th at 8-over.

The third round of the 2010 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available at www.GolfStatResults.com.
