TRINITY, Texas -With three of its golfers in the top 20, the 32nd-ranked Baylor men’s golf team remains in fifth place Saturday after three rounds of the 2012 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship.

Sitting at 27-over (304-297-290=891), Baylor has bettered its score each round by seven strokes and shot 2-over-par during Saturday’s third round. No. 15 Texas A&M (296-286-286=868) has opened a nine-stroke lead over No. 1 Texas (302-292-283=877). No. 46 Texas Tech is third at 14-over 878, followed by No. 28 Oklahoma in fourth at 16-over 880.

“Overall, we played pretty solid Saturday,” head coach Greg Priest said. “We didn’t do anything spectacular, but we managed to avoid the big numbers.”

At 6-under 210, Oklahoma’s Abraham Ancer expanded his first-day lead to two strokes. Texas’ Dylan Frittelli climbed up to second overall at 4-under 212, while Texas A&M’s Tyler Dunlap is third at 3-under 213. Texas Tech’s Clement Sordet and Texas A&M’s Johannes Veerman are tied for fourth at 1-under 215.

Three Baylor golfers posted even-par rounds Saturday – senior Joakim Mikkelsen and freshmen Kyle Jones and Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen.

After an even-par third round, Mikkelsen, rated 37th nationally by Golfstat, remains tied for sixth overall at 1-over (74-71-72=217). Starting on the back nine, Mikkelsen was 2-under through 10 holes before bogeys on the par-5 No. 2 and par-4 No. 4 to finish even for the day.

“Big numbers hurt us Friday,” Priest said. “We had some double, triple and quadruple-bogeys that were all scores that counted. If you take some of those away, we’re at least in the hunt.

“Saturday was a good round,” Priest said. “We got under-par early, but we let it get away towards the end of the round. We want to finish as high as we can and come back tomorrow and try to climb up the leaderboard.”

Jones is tied for 14th at 8-over (79-73-72=224), while Bjerch-Andresen is one stroke behind him and tied for 19th at 9-over (76-77-72=225). Ryan O’Rear is tied for 21st at 10-over (76-76-74=226) and Lorenzo Scotto is tied for 38th at 17-over (78-77-78=233).
