NCAA Ann Arbor Regional Second-Round Results

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 29th-ranked Baylor men’s golfer team remains in 11th, while senior Joakim Mikkelsen slipped to 12th after Friday’s second round at the 2012 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional.

Baylor shot a second-round 297, falling to 25-over 593 after 36 holes. No. 6 USC overtook first-round leader TCU by shooting 12-under Friday and is at 7-under 561 after the second round. Oregon, Kent State and TCU are in a three-way tie for second at 6-under 562, followed by No. 19 Virginia in fifth at even-par 568.

Mikkelsen, who entered Friday with a share of the individual lead, shot a second-round 73 and is in a four-way tie for 12th at 2-under 140. The Drammen, Norway, senior was even through his first six holes Friday until a bogey on the par-4 No. 16. Four holes later, he carded a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 2, falling to 3-over. On his second-to-last hole of the day, he birdied the par-3 No. 8 to finish 2-over.

TCU’s Julie Brun and N.C. State’s Albin Choi are tied for the individual lead at 7-under 135, followed by four golfers tied for third at 6-under 136 – Virginia’s Ben Kohles, Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki, USC’s Anthony Paolucci and Oklahoma State’s Patrick Winther.

The best second-round score by a Baylor golfer came from Snowflake, Ariz., freshman Kyle Jones, who fired a 1-over 72 and is tied for 52nd overall at 8-over 150. Junior Ryan O’Rear is tied for 55th at 9-over 151, while redshirt freshman Niclas Mansson is tied for 59th at 10-over 152. Freshman Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen is tied for 68th at 13-over 155.

The 2012 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional concludes Saturday with the final round at U-M Golf Course. Baylor, Purdue and Ohio State will tee off No. 10 beginning at 7:20 a.m. CDT. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
