THE RUNDOWN
OLYMPIA FIELDS, ILL. -- The Baylor men's golf team is tied for sixth place after one round of play in the eighth-annual Fighting Illini Invitational. The Bears are tied with Stanford, Illinois and Florida State at 15-over-par 295. Baylor is one stroke out of the top five behind Arkansas, and four strokes behind Oklahoma State in second place.

Senior Jerry Ruiz and junior Niclas Mansson are tied for 15th place at 3-over par 73. This is the second consecutive tournament Ruiz has been in the top 15 of the individual standings after the first round, as he led last week's Gopher Invitational after 18 holes.

Junior Filippo Zucchetti is tied for 26th place at 4-over par 74, and junior Kyle Jones, who is in a tie for 35th place at 5-over par, is one stroke behind Zucchetti. Sophomore Andreas Gjesteby is tied for 46th place at 6-over 76.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Mansson eagled No. 15 and finished his round with three straight pars, making up two strokes from his 5-over score through 14 holes.
• Jones, Ruiz and Zucchetti all made birdies on the 15th hole, combining with Mansson to finish that hole with a team score of 5-under-par.
• Zucchetti had the Bears' best score at the turn at 1-over par after eight pars and one bogey.
• Baylor is just four strokes behind second-place Oklahoma State (291), three strokes behind Texas and Texas Tech tied in third place (292) and on stroke behind Arkansas in fifth place (294).

STAT OF THE DAY
2 - the number of players in the 75-player field who made eagles during the first round - Baylor's Mansson and Florida State's Jack Maguire both eagled No. 15.

"It's a tough golf course, and the guys played well," head coach Greg Priest said. "The wind blew and it was a tough setup, but we did a good job hanging in there. I don't think anyone got frustrated, and everyone kept their composure pretty well. We have just got to keep grinding."

Gjesteby leads off the tee times for the Bears in Saturday's second round starting at 9:48 a.m. CT off the first tee.
