ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cody Paladino enjoyed his best performance this season, finishing 6-under (69-71-70=210) to guide the Baylor men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 2009 Wolverine at Radrick Farms Sunday.
Baylor, ranked No. 27 nationally according to Golfstat, shot a final-round 1-under 287 to finish 3-under (285-289-287=861). Host Michigan won the event with a final score of 24-under (277-278-285=840); 14th-ranked Arkansas finished second at 17-under (278-288-281=847), while Louisville finished third at 8-under (293-285-278=856).
Arkansas’ Jamie Marshall earned individual medalist honors after shooting a 10-under 206. Michigan teammates Matt Thompson and Lion Kim tied for second at 9-under 207.
Paladino posted his third sub-par round of the weekend with a 2-under 70 during Sunday’s final round to finish tied for seventh. The Kensington, Conn., native, posted his best outing since finishing third at the 2009 NCAA South Central Regional, which earned him an individual spot at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Paladino’s 54-hole score is his lowest since shooting 3-under 207 at the 2008 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
It is Paladino’s eighth top-10 finish of his career, moving him into a three-way tie for eighth all-time at Baylor with Will Doughtie (2001-04) and Chris Nickens (1995-97).
Sophomore Joakim Mikkelsen finished 10th overall at 5-under (72-71-68=211), also carding all three rounds of par or better. Mikkelsen has now registered a team-best six rounds of par or better.
Lorenzo Scotto was the third Bear to finish in the top 20; Scotto shot 1-over (69-74-74=217) to finish tied for 17th. Morten Began finished tied for 39th place at 7-over (75-73-75=223), while Michigan native Payne Gniewek shot 20-over (78-78-80=236) to finish 75th.
The Baylor men’s golf team returns to Texas for back-to-back tournaments to close out its fall schedule, beginning with the Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch Oct. 18-19 in San Antonio.
