Sept. 30, 2008
Final Round Results in PDF Format NORTH FALMOUTH, Mass. - The Baylor men's golf team claimed its second tournament title in as many weeks after running away with the Hartford Hawks Invitational Tuesday by a 10-stroke margin. It marked the second time the Bears have won back-to-back tournaments under head coach Greg Priest. In the spring of 2006, Baylor won the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate and Lexus Invitational in successive weeks. A day after carding a 4-under 284 as a team, Baylor shot a 6-under 282 to finish as the tournament's only team under par at 10-under. North Carolina State finished second with an even-par 576, followed by Georgia State in third with a 5-over 581. TCU (8-over 584) and Sacramento State (13-over 589) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth place, respectively. "The guys played really well today," Priest said. "Ballymeade is a demanding golf course. We kept it in play, hitting a lot of fairways and greens. We did a good job of playing smart golf. I'm pretty proud of them." For the second consecutive round, junior Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) fired a 2-under 70 to finish second overall with a 4-under 140 - nine strokes behind individual medalist Matt Hill of North Carolina State. Senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) finished tied for third with a 3-under 141. Sophomore Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) and redshirt freshman Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy) finished with an even-par 144 in a ninth-place tie. Joining Paladino and Scotto in ninth was Cody's older brother, Brent, a senior at William & Mary. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) shot a 1-under 71 on the day to finish tied for 17th at 2-over 146. Baylor returns to the links Oct. 13-14 when the Bears return to Alabama for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham. The two-day event will be hosted by the University of Alabama at Old Orchard Country Club.
