Men's Golf in Sixth after Two Rounds at Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the first time this season, the Baylor men's golf team finds itself trailing after two rounds. Baylor rebounded from a 5-over first round with a 3-under second round and is 15 strokes behind leader SMU after two rounds Monday at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. Baylor, in sixth place overall, is three strokes behind North Carolina (559) for fifth. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) is Baylor's highest finisher after day one, carding a 1-under 139 for 15th place. Sophomore Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) and redshirt freshman Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy) are tied for 24th at 1-over 141. Paladino shot a career-low-tying 4-under 66 in the second round. Junior Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) is tied for 31st after two rounds with a 4-over 144, followed by senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) in 40th place at 8-over 148. Baylor sat seven strokes back of leader Alabama after the first round. The Bears shot a 5-over 285 and were in a fifth-place tie with North Florida. Scotto was in an eight-way tie for sixth place after the first round with a 1-under 69. Mikkelsen shot an even-par 70 to finish tied for 14th after the opening round. Allcorn shot a first-round 2-over 72, while Williams and Paladino carded 4-over 74 and 5-over 75 first-round scores, respectively. The final round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate will tee off at approximately 8:30 a.m. (CT) Tuesday at Old Overton.
