ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Baylor's men's golf team shot a 2-over 286 in the final round Tuesday to finish fourth in the Purina Classic in St. Charles, Mo.
Freshman Ryan Baca (72+71+68=211) led the 36th-ranked Bears (289+290+286=865) finishing fourth overall in the 83-man field. Baca shot a closing round-best 3-under par 68 to finish 2-under for the tournament.
Arkansas State (857) came from eight shots behind to win the tournament beating out host Missouri (860) and Purdue (861).
Sophomore Adam Meyer (68+75+72=215) shot a closing round 72 to finish 10th overall. It was his second straight top-10 finish in the fall season and third of his collegiate career.
Junior transfer Jamie McLeary shot a consistent three rounds (74+71+72=217) to finish tied for 18th.
Freshman Derek Abel (75+74+73=222) from Plano, Texas, shot 9-over in this his first collegiate tournament.
Sophomore Will Doughtie (75+78+78=231) from Amarillo, Texas, shot a final round 78 to finish 73rd.
With the fourth-place finish, Baylor has now finished six of its last seven regular season tournaments in the top five.
The Bears will continue their fall schedule on October 29 when they host an 18-team field at the Henry Griffits Classic in Waco, Texas.
