Men's Golf Opens Spring at Arizona Intercollegiate

WACO, Texas - Baylor men's golf opens the spring 2018 season at the Arizona Intercollegiate, which runs Monday and Tuesday at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. Additionally, three BU players will compete in a sister tournament, the Arizona Medalist at Randolph North Golf Course.

Baylor's lineup for the Arizona Intercollegiate features junior Braden Bailey, senior Matthew Perrine, junior Garrett May, freshman Ryan Grider and redshirt freshman Travis McInroe. BU players competing as individuals in the Arizona Medalist are sophomores Austin Cotton and Colin Kober and freshman Mark Reppe.

The No. 5-ranked Bears will compete in an 18-team field featuring Arizona, No. 32 BYU, No. 15 California, Denver, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 38 San Diego State, No. 25 Santa Clara, South Dakota State, No. 42 Saint Mary's, No. 4 Texas A&M, UTEP, UTSA and Washington.

Teams will play two rounds Monday beginning with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start for the first round and continuous play into the second round. Tuesday's final round is slated for a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Individuals at the Arizona Medalist will play the same format with Monday's first round and Tuesday's final round beginning at 9:15 a.m.

The Bears have four players ranked among the top-80 in the GolfStat individual rankings. Bailey enters the spring ranked No. 9 nationally, May is No. 26, Cooper Dossey is No. 47 and Perrine is No. 76. May leads the team with a 69.33 stroke average, followed by Bailey at 69.50, Perrine at 70.33, Dossey at 70.42, McInroe at 72.11, Kober at 72.33, Grider at 73.33, Reppe at 73.67 and Cotton at 75.50.

BU players have shot a combined 42 of 83 rounds at or below par, led by Bailey with 10 of 12 rounds at par or better. May, Perrine and Dossey have seven par or better rounds this season. Bailey has finished among the top-10 individuals in all four tournaments, including a tie for third place at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.

The Bears finished top-four in all four tournaments during the fall season, including first place at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, second at the Gopher Invitational, third at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and fourth at the Fighting Illini Invitational.
