Men's Golf Heads to Desert Shootout

Senior Matthew Seligmann is the only upperclassmen in Baylor's lineup.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The No. 41-ranked Baylor men's golf team is headed to Arizona for its first out-of-state tournament of the spring season, the Desert Shootout at Palm Valley Golf Course. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the par-72, 7,015-yard course in Goodyear, Ariz.

The tournament, which is hosted by University of Denver, features 16 teams, including four programs ranked in the nation's top 50 in the latest GolfStat rankings. Teams will play 18 holes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start each of the three days. Live scoring for all three rounds is available at

Baylor's lineup features four sophomores with Filippo Zucchetti, Kyle Jones, Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and Niclas Mansson, as well as senior Matthew Seligmann. Freshman Andreas Gjesteby is competing as an individual.

No. 41 Baylor is the third-highest ranked team in the 16-team field, trailing only No. 19 Illinois and No. 39 Tulsa. No. 42 BYU is also ranked in the top 50, while Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Southern Utah, Tulsa and Wyoming round out the field.

Baylor is playing in the Desert Shootout for the first time in program history. The Bears have two more regular-season tournaments after the Desert Shootout before heading to the Big 12 Championship.
