Live Scoring for the Insperity Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The 31st-ranked Baylor men’s golf team is one of 10 top-50 teams competing at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational, hosted by two-time defending national champion Augusta State.

This weekend’s event is projected to be one of the strongest fields in the 34-year history of the tournament. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held March 31 and April 1 at the par-72, 7,029-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. The first and second rounds will be begin with a 7:30 a.m. CDT shotgun start Saturday, while the final round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. CDT Sunday.

One of last season’s national semifinalists – Oklahoma State – and the current top-ranked team in the nation – Texas – headline the 16-team field. Baylor is the fourth-highest ranked team in the tournament. In addition to 10 top-50 teams, thirteen of the top-100 individuals in the nation will also be in this weekend’s field. Oklahoma State is the defending Augusta State Invitational champion, posting a winning score of 16-under 848 in 2011.

Baylor’s lineup in Augusta will feature two seniors – Joakim Mikkelsen and Lorenzo Scotto – and three freshmen – Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen, Kyle Jones and Niclas Mansson. Mikkelsen is the only golfer to start in all nine of Baylor’s tournaments. Bjerch-Andresen returns to the lineup after tying for third as an individual at the Border Olympics.

Mikkelsen, who has seven top-10 finishes to his credit this season, leads the Bears with a 71.08 stroke average and 19 rounds of par or better. The Drammen, Norway, native has finished in the top-five in three consecutive events. Bjerch-Andresen is second to Mikkelsen in stroke average (72.56), score vs. par (0.89) and rounds of par or better (12). Scotto and Jones are making their seventh appearances in Baylor’s lineup, while Mansson is making his third consecutive lineup start.

Baylor has finish third or better in five of its eight tournaments, including a second-place finish at the Border Olympics earlier this month.

Following the Border Olympics, Baylor returns to the Lone Star State for The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate, which will be held April 9-10 at The Woodlands Course in The Woodlands, Texas.
