The Baylor men's golf team is headed to Augusta, Ga., for the 36th-annual 3M Augusta Invitational. The 54-hole event is hosted by GRU Augusta and will be played at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, followed by the final 18 on Sunday. The tournament will be played at 7,028 yards on the par-72 course.
The 27th-ranked Bears will be competing in one of the strongest fields they have faced this season. The 15-team field features 12 teams ranked in the top 50 of the latest GolfStat rankings, including No. 7 Central Florida, No. 28 Clemson, No. 8 Houston, No. 9 Illinois, No. 22 New Mexico, No. 42 Purdue, No. 23 South Carolina, No. 46 TCU, No. 43 Tennessee, No. 19 Texas and No. 13 Virginia Tech. Coastal Carolina, GRU Augusta and South Carolina-Aiken will also be competing in the invitational.
Kyle Jones, who was named March's Big 12 Golfer of the Month, will lead the Bears lineup. Senior Jerry Ruiz, sophomore Andreas Gjesteby and juniors Niclas Mansson and Filippo Zucchetti will also compete for Baylor.
Saturday's first round will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT. The Bears are paired with South Carolina and Virginia Tech for the first two rounds. Baylor will tee off on holes eight through 10, with Jones starting on the eighth hole, followed by Gjesteby and Ruiz in groups 9A and 9B. Zucchetti and Mansson are in groups 10A and 10B, respectively.
