LIVERPOOL, England - Baylor men's golf sophomore Joakim Mikkelsen shot a 5-over 77 during Monday's opening round of the 2009 British Amateur Championship at West Lancashire Golf Club. BU alumnus Bill Allcorn carded an opening-round 7-over 79 at Formby Golf Club.

Mikkelesen, tied for 165th overall, was 3-over through the front nine after bogeys on the par-5 No. 2, No. 6 and No.9 holes. The Norwegian bogeyed the par-4 10th and 14th before parring out the final four to finish five shots over par on the day. He will tee off Tuesday's second round at 1:11 a.m. CDT (7:11 a.m. local time) at the par-72, 7,095-yard Formby.

Allcorn is two shots behind his college teammate after a first-round 79 Monday, tied for 220th place. The Big 12 All-Tournament team selection notched a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 2 and later bogeyed holes 6 and 8, finishing the front nine at 4-over. Allcorn was dealt another double-bogey on the back nine before a birdie on the par-4 18th to finish his day. He will tee off Tuesday's second round at 3:50 a.m. CDT (9:50 a.m. local time) at the par-72, 7,020 West Lancashire.

Italy's Matteo Manassero leads the 288-golfer field after a 7-under 65. Fifteen golfers tallied an opening-round score of 69 or better Monday.

Following the second round, the 64 lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th place will compete in the match-play state of the Championship, which will begin Wednesday, June 17 at Formby.
