Four Baylor Men's Golfers Qualify for U.S. Amateur Championships

WACO, Texas - Baylor men's golfers Derek Abel, Jon Antunes, Adam Meyer and Trevar Matheson have each qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships, to be held in late August.

Abel, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, shot a two-day total of 139 (70-69) at Canyon Creek Country Club near Dallas to qualify, while Antunes, a junior from Belton, Texas, was one shot better with a score of 140 (72-68) at Timarron Golf and Country Club in the Dallas area to advance.

Meyer and Matheson each qualified at Waco's Ridgewood Country Club. A junior from Waco, Meyer finished with an impressive 129 (65-64). Matheson, a senior from Victoria, British Columbia, shot a 133 (67-66).

Ryan Baca, a sophomore from Richmond, Texas, finished with a seven-under 137 (68-69) at Ridgewood to qualify as a first alternate.

The U.S. Amateur Championships will be played August 22-26 at the renowned Oakland Hills Country Club outside of Detroit, site of the 1996 U.S. Open and the 2004 Ryder Cup.
