SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Baylor men's golf team bettered its first round score by three shots, but tournament leader Michigan State sizzled to a 6-under par 274 on the second day of competition at the Notre Dame Gridiron Golf Classic.

After opening the tournament with an 8-over par 288 on Sunday, Baylor carded a 5-over par 285 on Monday, moving to 13-over par for the weekend. Michigan State had three players shoot under par on Monday, extended its tournament lead to 14 strokes.

With overnight thunderstorms softening the course, play continued on Tuesday with "lift, clean and place" rules. Michigan State's Ryan Brehm took advantage, shooting 6-under par in the second round to claim the individual lead by four shots.

Cody Paladino (Kennington, Conn.) shot 1-under par in the second round to finish 36 holes at even par in a tie for second place overall. Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) and Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) are tied for eighth place with five other players at 3-over par. Allcorn shot 69 on Monday, while Williams, who shot 1-under par in the first round, carded a 74 in the second round.

Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) is tied for 25th overall at 7-over par after a second-round 73, while Weldon Martin (Houston, Texas) finished the second day in a tie for 53rd overall shooting 8-over par to finish at 15-over par for the tournament.

Jeff Gerlich (Austin, Texas), competing as an individual, carded a 74 on Monday to finish the second round in a tie for 25th overall at 7-over par.

Baylor returns to action tomorrow morning in the final round of the Notre Dame Gridiron Golf Classic at the Warren Course. The Bears will tee off from the first hole starting at 9:20 a.m.
