WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team cracked into the top 10 of a major golf poll for the second time this week when it ranked seventh nationally in the Golfweek poll Thursday. Last week, Baylor was ranked No. 4 in the Golfweek poll entering the Hartford Hawks Invitational.

Following back-to-back tournament wins to start the season, the Baylor men's golf team was ranked 10th nationally in Golfstat's first rankings of the 2008-09 season Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Baylor ran away with the Hartford Hawks Invitational in North Falmouth, Mass., winning by a commanding 10 strokes. Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) fired back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70 to finish second overall with a 4-under 140. Senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) finished tied for third with a 3-under 141. Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) and Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy) finished with an even-par 144 in a ninth-place tie.

Last week, Baylor held off a furious rally by Ole Miss to claim the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate by two strokes. The Bears also finished ahead of five preseason Top 30 teams. Williams posted the Bears' highest individual performance at Shoal Creek, finishing tied for ninth at 4-over 220. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) finished tied for 11th at 5-over.

Baylor returns to the links Oct. 13-14 when the Bears return to Alabama for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham. The two-day event will be hosted by the University of Alabama at Old Orchard Country Club.
