BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Nearly two weeks after claiming its second tournament win of the season, the Baylor men's golf team looks to continue its success on the course at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. The two-day event begins with 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 13 and concludes with the final 18 on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Birmingham's par-70, 6,934-yard Old Overton Club.
Baylor is making its second trip to Birmingham in four weeks. The Bears opened the season with a two-stroke victory at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate on Sept. 23 at the Shoal Creek Country Club.
Baylor, one of 12 schools participating in the event, is ranked No. 9 in the latest Golfstat rankings. Rounding out the tournament field are Alabama, Auburn, Georgia State, Memphis, North Carolina, North Florida, Samford, SMU, UAB, UNC Wilmington and UNLV. In addition to the Bears, Alabama (No. 7) and UNLV (No. 17) are also ranked in Golfstat's top 25.
The Bears return their top four scorers from their win at the Hawks Invitational two weeks ago. Junior Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) has two top-10 finishes to his credit to start the fall season. Williams, an All-Big 12 pick in 2008, was Baylor's highest finisher at the Hawks Invitational, carding a 4-under 140 to finish second overall. At Shoal Creek, the junior posted Baylor's best individual finish with a ninth-place showing at 4-over 220.
Senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) continues to have a solid fall after shooting 3-under at the Hawks Invitational. Sophomore Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) finished tied for ninth with an even-par 144 at the Hawks Invitational after shooting 8-over at Shoal Creek.
Freshmen Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) has been impressive in his first two tournaments. He finished tied for 11th at Shoal Creek and tied for 17th at the Hawks Invitational. Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy) posted a top-10 finish in his Baylor debut with a ninth-place showing at the Hawks Invitational.
