DALLAS – Baylor men’s golf is hosting the 2012 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, a 54-hole tournament that runs Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 7,068-yard Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. The Bears are co-hosting the 14-team tournament with SMU.

Baylor and SMU are joined by Iowa, Lamar, North Carolina, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Tulsa in the tournament field. There are also 10 players competing as individuals in the tournament, including Baylor’s Matthew Seligmann and Charles Neel White.

Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Baylor players will tee off on holes five through nine and will continue play in the same groups for the second round. Tuesday’s final round is scheduled for tee times on the first and 10th holes starting at 8:30 a.m.

The Baylor lineup features Filippo Zucchetti, Kyle Jones, Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen, Niclas Mansson and Andreas Gjesteby. Bjerch-Andresen finished tied for 22nd over at the same tournament last season, while Seligmann tied for 40th, Jones tied for 51st and Mansson tied for 60th place.

This year’s event is the fifth annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The Bears finished fifth in 2008, tied for fourth in 2009, ninth in 2010 and sixth in 2011. Joakim Mikkelsen finished in fourth place individually in 2009, marking the highest individual finish by a Baylor player at the Royal Oaks.

Last season’s tournament was the lowest scoring in the event’s four-year history, as eight of the nine best 54-hole individual scores all-time at the tournament were recorded. Ten of the 12 lowest 54-hole team scores were also shot in last year’s event.
