Kokta's Player Bio

After an impressive four-year career as a player from 2004-07, Michal Kokta is in his third year in a coaching role as a volunteer assistant coach.

Kokta, a 2007 Baylor graduate, returned to campus and is working toward a doctorate degree in mathematics while assisting the men's tennis program.

The native of Prague, Czech Republic, was highly-successful both on and off the court. Kokta is one of five Bears to earn Academic All-America honors during their careers, he was a 2007 recipient. Other academic honors include; two-time Academic All-Big 12 (first team) and twice named the team's student-athlete of the year.

In addition, he was the 2007 ITA South Central Region Senior Player of the Year, most outstanding performer at the 2007 Big 12 Championship, two-time All-Big 12 in singles and three-time All-Big 12 in doubles.

Kokta's highest final ITA rankings included No. 22 in singles as a senior and No. 11 in doubles with Lars Poerschke in 2006.

His name can also be found in the Baylor record books. Kokta holds the team record for most dual match wins in a season (28) and ranks No. 2 with Poerschke for most doubles team wins in a season (25). His mark of 31 season doubles wins (31) ranks No. 7.

On the career charts, Kokta is No. 2 in doubles winning percentage (.789, 78-21) while his singles winning percentage (.777, 101-29) ranks No. 5 all-time. Additionally, Kokta and Poerschke hold the record for most team doubles wins with 51.

Kokta reached a career high ATP ranking of 356 in October of 2002 and attained an ITF junior ranking of eighth in January of 2001.
