THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Baylor's men's tennis teammates Lars Poerschke and Dominik Mueller each won quarterfinal matches on Saturday at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup and will face each other in Sunday semifinal action. The tournament, held at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., will continue through Monday.
Poerschke, a senior who is seeing his first action of his final season, downed teammate Jordan Rux, a freshman, in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the next round. Mueller, a sophomore, defeated 73rd-ranked James Lemke of Pepperdine, 6-3, 6-2, and will now take on Poerschke in the semifinals.
Doubles competition began on Saturday with round of 16 play, and Poerschke and David Galic downed Stanford's Phillip Kao and Kevin Kaiser, 8-4. Gwen Corches and Jordan Rux lost to USC's Jason McNaughton and Daniel GIlner, 8-5, while Attila Bucko and Lukacs advanced to the semifinals with a bye.
Singles action begins at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday while doubles are slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
