THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team wrapped up play in the Sherwood Collegiate Cup on Sunday with four singles matches from the Sherwood Country Club.

"We as a group didn't do a good job today," head coach Matt Knoll said. "It was a long weekend and we wore down emotionally. We are not satisfied with how we did. We have to be better."

On the day, the Bears were 1-3 collectively. The lone win came from junior Robert Verzaal, who took down Seth Stolar of UCLA, 6-0, 6-4.

Baylor's two ranked singles players both fell in the three-set thrillers. Sophomore Marko Krickovic, ranked No. 50, dropped a contest vs. 27th-ranked Emilio Gomez, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.

Meanwhile, 60th-ranked Mate Zsiga, opened with a 6-4 win in the first set against Michael Grant of USC, but the Trojan rebounded to take the match with a 6-4 victory in the second-set and then a 10-7 win in the third-set tiebreaker.

Sophomore Tony Lupieri also lost a tight match, 7-5, 7-6(3), against Robert Stineman of Stanford.

"We are going to get back to town and get amped up for the dual-match season," Knoll said. "We were flat across the board. I have a hard time appreciating the concept of being flat, but we were today and it caught up with us."

The Bears will next be action to resume their dual-match schedule on Jan. 25 vs. SMU at 7 p.m. The contest against the Mustangs will be played in the Jim and Nell Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center as part of the facility's grand opening.
