WACO, Texas -- The 22nd-ranked Baylor men's tennis team began its 2017 regular season with dominating 7-0 sweeps over Incarnate Word and then Grand Canyon University Saturday.
The Bears had planned to play outside, however due to inclement weather, the matches were moved to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears reeled off two easy wins to clinch the doubles point against the Antelopes. First, Will Little and Johannes Schretter won their match, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Meanwhile on court three, Juan Benitez and Jimmy Bendeck clinched the opening point with a 6-1 win.
The Bears rolled the early momentum over to singles with Petersen produced a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot. The fast start continued at the top of lineup as the 44th-ranked Tchoutakian dominated Joey Vatanadilok, 6-0, 6-3, to stake the Bears to a 3-0 lead. To clinch the match, Little bested Nedim Ahmic, 6-0, 6-2, on court five.
With the match in hand, BU picked up straight set victories from Constantin Frantzen (6-1, 6-2), the 81st-ranked Bendeck over No. 108 Francisco Bendana, 6-2, 6-2, and Schretter (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 2 spot to complete the sweep.
In the second contest of the day, the Bears cruised to a victory in the doubles point with wins from the pairings of Tchoutakian and Benitez, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot, and then a 6-1 triumph for Petersen and Frantzen on court two.
With the point decided, Bendeck and Schretter took a 6-2 win at the bottom of the lineup.
In singles, Petersen carded the first BU win by powering past Justin Cvitanovic, 6-2, 6-2, on court five. Frantzen followed with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Gregoire Balenci at the No. 6 spot to put the Bears on the brink of the victory.
The 44th-ranked Tchoutakian clinched the match for BU with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Francois Musitelli on court two.
With the match decided, Benitez (6-3, 7-6(5)), the 81st-ranked Bendeck (7-5, 6-3) and Schretter (6-3, 6-4) all produced straight-set victories to lock up the shutout.
Baylor is now 18-3 in season openers under head coach Matt Knoll and has won 21 of its last 22 home openers.
Juan Benitez is 6-0 on the season in singles play.
Johannes Schretter has won three-straight singles matches.
BU didn't lose a set in singles play on the day, winning all 12 matches in straight sets.

The Bears will now travel to College Station to take on No. 16 Texas A&M. The match is set to take place on Saturday, Jan. 28th at 2 p.m.
