HOUSTON - Baylor's two representatives struggled at the River Oaks Intercollegiate Clay Court Invitational, held Friday and Saturday in Houston.

The Bears' Johann Jooste, ranked No. 11 nationally, entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed but fell in three sets to Borut Martincevic, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. The loss knocked Jooste to the consolation bracket, where he lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to Robert Collins.

BU's other entrant, Pawel Gajdzik, did no better. The No. 29-ranked Gajdzik started as the number four seed, but fell to Toby Hansson 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. In the consolation bracket, Gajdzik lost 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Fabien Giraud.

Three Bears begin action Tuesday in the first round of qualifying in the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships in Baltimore. Csongor Bibza will square off against Ed Dus of Kansas, Mark Williams will face Duke's Ted Rueger, and Johannes Michalsky will meet Alexander Hartman of Ole Miss.

All matches begin at 10 am ET.
