HOUSTON -
Baylor's two representatives struggled at the River
Oaks Intercollegiate Clay Court Invitational, held
Friday and Saturday in Houston.
The Bears' Johann Jooste, ranked No. 11 nationally,
entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed but fell
in three sets to Borut Martincevic, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The loss knocked Jooste to the consolation bracket,
where he lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to Robert Collins.
BU's other entrant, Pawel Gajdzik, did no better.
The No. 29-ranked Gajdzik started as the number
four seed, but fell to Toby Hansson 6-1, 6-4 in the
first round. In the consolation bracket, Gajdzik
lost 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Fabien Giraud.
Three Bears begin action Tuesday in the first round
of qualifying in the T. Rowe Price National Clay
Court Championships in Baltimore. Csongor Bibza
will square off against Ed Dus of Kansas, Mark
Williams will face Duke's Ted Rueger, and Johannes
Michalsky will meet Alexander Hartman of Ole Miss.
All matches begin at 10 am ET.
