BALTIMORE -
Baylor's Csongor Bibza and Mark Williams won their
first round qualifying round matches, but fell in
the second round at the ITA Clay Court National in
Baltimore.
Bibza defeated Big 12 rival Ed Dus of Kansas, 8-4,
and then dropped an 8-5 decision to Tiago Ruffoni
of Auburn.
Williams beat Duke's Ted Rueger, 8-4, before losing
to Robert Gustafson of Middle Tennessee State, 8-4.
Also in the first round, Alexander Hartman of
Mississippi bettered BU's Johannes Michalsky, 8-2.
The main draw begins Thursday, and will see three
Baylor singles players in action, as well as all
three Baylor doubles teams.
Johann Jooste, Pawel Gajdzik, and David Hodge each
earned advancement to the main draw based on their
national rankings.
Jooste, ranked No. 11, faces LSUis Tom Hand.
Gajdzik, No. 29 in the country, will meet Martin
Selin of Ole Miss. Hodge, No. 53 nationally,
squares off against Daniel Andersson of VCU.
All three Baylor doubles teams will also be in
action. The No. 34-ranked team of Jooste and Bibza
will take on Vladimir Pavicevic and Nenad Zivkovic
of UNLV. Hodge and Williams, ranked No. 36, will
face Andy Crews and Peter Handoyo of
Tennessee. Gajzdik and Michalsky meets James
Shortall and Kristopher Stahlberg of Ole Miss.
