TULSA, Okla. -
Baylor freshman Marc Bruche went 1-1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) D'Novo All-American Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
In the tournament's pre-qualifying round of 128, the freshman from Hvlsbrunn, Germany, defeated Denver's Johan Gunnarsson. Bruche took the first set 6-3 before falling in the second 7-6 (4). The rookie came back strong and posted a 6-1 third-set win to advance to the round of 64.
LSU's Neal Skupski proved to be too tough for Bruche as the Tiger freshman posted a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-3.
"Marc was able to play two matches at one of the toughest tournaments in the country. He will learn from his experience this weekend and use it to continue his development for the rest of the fall season," said assistant coach Kyle Spencer.
Three Baylor netters begin action on Monday in the tournament's qualifying bracket. Junior Attila Bucko (Wellington, Fla.) will hit the court first for the Bears when he takes on a yet-to-be-named player who advances out of the pre-qualifying round. His match is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Sophomore Jordan Rux (Kerrville, Texas) will play South Florida freshman Wael Kilani at 9:30 a.m. Freshman Julian Bley (Veitshoechheim, Germany) has the Bears' last action of the day when he takes to the court against Princeton senior Alex Krueger-Wyman at 4:00 p.m.
