TULSA, Okla. - Tennis' Rux Stays Alive in National Tournament Sophomore wins second-round match in qualifying draw of ITA All-American.

Baylor's Jordan Rux took one step closer to a spot in the main draw of the D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships with his second-round victory in the qualifying draw on Tuesday at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The 86th-ranked Rux, a sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, extended his season singles record to 6-1 with his victory (6-4, 6-1) over Tulsa sophomore Victor Kolik, ranked No. 59 nationally and the qualifying draw's No. 12 seed. With the win, Rux now owns season victories over four players ranked above him: No. 14 Bruno Rosa (Rice), No. 17 Conor Pollock (Texas A&M), No. 48 Rudy Siwy (Fresno State) and Kolick. His lone loss came in the semifinals of the Baylor Invitational to the nation's top-ranked player Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State. Wednesday's round of 32 action sees Rux playing Shuhei Uzawa of Ohio State at 9 a.m.

A win on Wednesday would move Rux to the tournament's main draw, which begins on Thursday. Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller have already been selected to the main draw and will begin play on Thursday as well.

"Jordan has made big strides with his game this fall. Tomorrow's match will be another firm test for him," said head coach Matt Knoll.

Qualifying doubles action began with Attila Bucko and Rux matched up against Arkansas's Matt Hogan and Blake Strode. The two teams met in the round of 32 of the recently completed Baylor Invitational with the Arkansas duo prevailing 8-6. However, today the Bears dominated, posting an 8-4 win. The Baylor tandem was eliminated from the tournament when Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala of Texas posted an 8-4 victory.

In consolation action, Bucko, a junior from Wellington, Fla., lost to Arkansas' Hogan, 6-3, 7-6, while freshman Julian Bley (Veitshoechheim, Germany) posted a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 win over Nick Meister of UCLA.

The D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships, held this year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, entails five days of qualifying events. It began with a 256-player pre-qualifying singles tournament (Oct. 3-5). The pre-qualifying fed into a 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments on Oct. 6-8, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws on Oct. 9-12.
