MANSFIELD, Texas - With his win in the third round of the qualifying draw on Monday, Baylor freshman Lars Behlen joins teammate Mate Zsiga in the main draw at the Futures of Mansfield Tournament in Mansfield, Texas.
Behlen, who hails from Munster, Germany, swept past the USA's Harrison Adams in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to move into the main draw of the USTA Pro Circuit event. Behlen is one of just two unseeded qualifying draw players to advance to the main draw. In all, eight players fought their way through qualifying to advance to the main event.
Freshman Mate Zsiga has already gained entry into the tournament's main draw by winning the wild card tournament. In addition, former Bear Denes Lukacs, currently ranked No. 467, will compete in the main draw which begins on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
On Tuesday at 10 a.m., Lukacs will take on the USA's Jordan Cox while Zsiga faces off against the USA's Dennis Nevolo who advanced through the qualifying draw. That match will not begin before 11 a.m. Behlen is idle until Wednesday when he takes on the tournament's No. 6 seed Chris Eaton (GBR). Eaton is currently ranked No. 346.
