WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team picked up five singles wins on the second day of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday.
Four of those singles wins came from Mate Zsiga and Diego Galeano, who each won two matches to advance to the event's quarterfinals. Meanwhile, as a tandem Galeano and Zsiga produced a pair of wins to earn a spot into the doubles semifinal round.
The 60th-ranked Zsiga began his day with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Andres Alfonzo of TCU in the round of 32. The BU junior went on to claim a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Texas A&M's Jackson Withrow to advance to the quarterfinals.
Galeano reached the round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Behzad Minavi of Texas A&M. The win set up a matchup with fifth-seeded and 73rd-ranked Arturs Kazijevs of SMU. After falling into a 3-1 hole in the first set, Galeano fought back to win the set 7-5. From there, the BU junior advanced to the quarterfinals after Kazijevs withdrew due to injury.
Tony Lupieri, ranked No. 79, faced Will Stein of TCU in his first match of the day. After only dropping three games, Lupieri advanced with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to set up a round of 16 matchup with Texas' No. 101 Lloyd Glasspool. However, Lupieri was unable to get past the Longhrorn and dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to end his run in the tournament.
Freshman Vince Schneider was ousted from the event in the round of 32 by losing to 10th-ranked Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles competition Baylor's 22nd- ranked pairing of Galeano and Zsiga won their first match of the day against Andre Napolitano and Felipe Soares of Texas Tech 8-4, to set up a quarterfinal round matchup with A&M's Behzad Minavi and Tito Moreiras. The Bears got off to a slow start and found themselves down 4-1, but came back to even the match at 7-7 before finally closing out an 8-7(3) victory to clinch a spot in the semifinals.
Baylor's second doubles pairing could not close out an extended doubles match and were eventually downed by fifth-seeded pairing of Glasspool and Hess-Olesen of Texas by a score of 8-7(3).
Competition will resume Monday with the first matches scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on the main courts of the Hurd Tennis Center.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow with doubles competition set to get underway at 9 a.m. Singles competition is set to begin at 10:30 with fourth-seeded Mate Zsiga set to take on fifth-seed Junior Ore of Texas A&M, while Diego Galeano will play another Aggie, second-seed Jeremy Efferding.
