Men's Tennis' Lukacs Moves on in Main Draw of USTA Event
Talented junior wins round of 32 match in Futures Tournament.
In the main draw of the USTA Futures Pro Circuit at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield, Texas, on Wednesday, Baylor's Denes Lukacs won his first round match.
Lukacs, a native of Eger, Hungary, posted an impressive victory over former University of Georgia standout, Travis Helgeson, 6-1, 6-2, in first round action. After winning the first set, Lukacs was down 0-2 in the second stanza before catching fire and taking the next six games to claim the win.
"Denes played great today. The match was tough early on but Denes was relentless in his play. He was moving around and hitting the ball well," said head coach Matt Knoll.
In the Thursday's round of 16, Lukacs will take on eighth-seeded Matthew Ebden, a 6-1 right-hander out of Perth, Australia.
In other first round action, freshman Jurica Grubisic lost to the tournament's No. 1 seed, Carsten Ball of Australia, 6-0, 6-2.
