NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Jordan Rux's run at the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by Yale University at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center ended Saturday when the Kerrville, Texas product fell in the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
Rux, the fourth-seed in the consolation bracket, fell to Texas' Ed Corrie, 6-3, 6-4. It was the second time in 10 days that the two Big 12 rivals had met with Corrie, the 46th-ranked player in the ITA preseason listings, also winning a 6-4, 6-2 decision in the quarterfinals at the 2009 Wilson/ITA South Central Region Championships on Oct. 27 in College Station, Texas.
"Ed is a real solid player and he has really turned it on this fall," men's tennis assistant coach Chris Brandi said. "Jordan comes out of it with a lot of positives and really knows what he needs to work on the rest of the fall to be ready for the spring."
Before the two losses, Rux owned a 4-0 record over Corrie in head-to-head matches.
In his first match of the day, the 27th-ranked Rux dispatched of Yale's John Huang with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to give him the opportunity to face Corrie. Huang was one of the two host wildcards that was selected by Yale to compete in the 32-player singles draw. He was not ranked in the ITA preseason listings.
"This morning Jordan did everything he is capable of doing much like yesterday," Brandi said. "He stuck to his game plan and just overmatched his opponent."
With the 1-1 day, Rux moves his fall record to 12-4 and his indoor record this season to 3-2. Last spring season, Rux was 0-5 in indoor court competition.
With his play Rux increased the streak of consecutive years that a Baylor player has competed in ITA Indoor Championships to nine.
