FLUSHING, New York – Baylor men’s tennis players Patrick Pradella (7-3) and Diego Galeano (12-3) advanced on Friday to the second consolation round of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
After falling in the first round of the main draw on Thursday, Galeano recorded his first win of the event with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Georgia’s Austin Smith. The victory sets up a second round consolation matchup with UCLA’s 6th-ranked Marcus Giron. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The 16th-ranked Pradella will also compete in the second round of the consolation event due to a walkover victory over 18th-ranked Yannick Hanfmann of USC. He will face Oklahoma’s 44th- ranked Dane Webb who advanced due to an injury.
The 38th-ranked Julian Lenz (9-2), was unable to advance out of the second round of the tournament’s main draw with a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the hands of the 85th-ranked Axel Alvarez of Oklahoma. The loss knocks Lenz out of the tournament.
