WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's tennis team will kick off the 2010 campaign ranked No. 6 in the initial Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings after finishing the 2009 season ranked No. 7.
The Bears return six players off last season's 26-6 squad including ITA All-American Denes Lukacs, a senior.
Jordan Rux, a junior, is the lone Bear ranked in the ITA's singles listings at No. 11 after an outstanding fall season. The Kerrville, Texas product finished the fall with a 12-4 singles record while capturing the Baylor Intercollegiate singles title.
Baylor also placed two doubles pairings in the ITA's rankings, Rux and sophomore Maros Horny are listed as the No. 11 team, while senior Attila Bucko and sophomore Julian Bley are the 38th-ranked team.
In the upcoming season, head coach Matt Knoll's squad will play matches against five of the other nine teams ranked among the top 10: Virginia, Ohio State, Texas, UCLA, and Stanford. In addition, 14 of Baylor's 21 confirmed matches are against ranked opponents.

The Bears open the season Jan. 15-17 when selected players will compete in the Sherwood Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. The squad's first dual match will be Jan. 22 when the Bears face Louisiana-Lafayette for a 3 p.m. match in Waco.
Baylor was one of only 12 schools in the country to have both their men's and women's tennis programs both ranked with the women's team receiving a ranking of No. 5.
Only players who participated in fall season tournaments are eligible for the initial singles and doubles rankings.
