WACO, Texas -
Former Baylor tennis player Benjamin Becker has been selected by the German Tennis Federation to play in Davis Cup competition. It will be Becker's first national team competition.
"For me it is one of the biggest honors a person can receive, to be able to represent your country. It was a dream of mine growing up and it is still tough for me to realize that I will actually be part of it now. It will be an unforgettable week for me. I am grateful to Coach Knoll for everything he did for me at Baylor and encouraging me to keep playing tennis. Without my time there, I would have not been able to achieve this dream," said Becker.
Becker, a three-time All-American who helped lead Baylor to the 2004 NCAA championship and was the NCAA singles champion that same season, will compete from Feb. 9 to 11 in Krefeld, Germany. The winners will take on either Belgium or Australia in the next round in April.
Joining Becker in singles is Tommy Haas and doubles specialists Alexander Waske and Michael Kohlmann.
