WACO, Texas - After gaining its first road win of the young season at UT-Arlington on Tuesday, the Baylor Bears men's tennis team turns its focus to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
The seventh-ranked Bears, 4-1 on the season, will take on the ninth-ranked Stanford Cardinal (6-3) in opening round action on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m., in Charlottesville, Va. Baylor captured the tournament championship in 2005.
Also in action this weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships are; USC, Virginia, Ohio State, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, Texas A&M, Pepperdine, California, Texas, Auburn and Tennessee.
The Bears are led on the season by 25th-ranked Mate Zsiga who sports a 19-3 season record and is 5-0 in dual match play. Junior Roberto Maytin is 14-6 on the season and 4-1 in dual match action and freshman Marko Krickovic is 10-7 overall and 4-1 in dual matches. The doubles tandem of Maytin and Krickovic, ranked No. 26 nationally, owns the team's top doubles record at 5-2. In dual match action, Krickovic and Robert Verzaal possess the best mark at 3-1.
Baylor leads the series with the Cardinal at 11-0. Stanford has played its first nine matches without the services of two-time All-American and 2010 NCAA singles champion Bradley Klahn, who could be available this weekend.
