WACO, Texas - The 16th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team hits the road for the third time this season as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on the 10th-ranked California Bears on Monday, Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
Baylor, 4-4 on the season and 3-0 all-time vs. Cal, hopes to snap its three-match losing streak as it plays a Cal team that is 5-5 in dual match play. The match will be played at Cal's Hellman Tennis Complex.
The Bears are coming off an 0-3 performance at the ITA National Team Indoor while Cal is coming off a 6-1 loss at No. 9 Stanford. Cal was without 67th-ranked junior Carlos Cueto in that match.
The Baylor Bears are led on the season by 25th-ranked freshman Mate Zsiga's 19-4 season mark; he is 5-1 in dual match play. Junior Roberto Maytin, ranked No. 101, owns the team's second-best singles record at 14-8, including a 4-3 dual match record. Two freshmen, 98th-ranked Lars Behlen and Marko Krickovichave won 10 matches each, Behlen is 10-8 on the year while, Krickovic is 10-10.
Krickovic and sophomore Robert Verzaalown the team's best doubles mark at 5-2 on the season and a 5-1 dual match mark. Maytin and Krickovic are ranked No. 26 but haven't played dual match competition together yet.
The Cal Bears have two ranked singles players, No. 44 Ben McLachlan and Cueto, while the doubles tandem of Nick Andrews and Christoffer Konigsfeldt is ranked No. 4. After the Cal match, Baylor returns home to host SMU at the Hurd Tennis Center on Thursday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m.
