Men's Tennis Meets Memphis in Friday Showdown
March 1, 2018

WACO, Texas - No. 32 Baylor men's tennis (9-3) faces a familiar non-conference opponent in No. 41 Memphis on Friday at 3 p.m. CT at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.

Baylor will meet the Tigers (5-3) for the seventh-straight season and looks to keep a perfect record under head coach Matt Knoll. A win on Friday would move the all-time series record to 9-0.

Baylor is led by two ranked players on the singles side. Junior Johannes Schretter and sophomore Bjoern Petersen are ranked No. 38 and No. 74 in the country. Both players have a 5-4 dual-match singles record.

The Bears have two ranked doubles tandems as Will Little and Johannes Schretter team together to be No. 5 while Bjoern Petersen and Jimmy Bendeck are No. 55.

Memphis has won three of its last four matches and has recorded wins over Indiana, Arkansas, Cornell, Penn State and Michigan State this season. The Tigers have dropped matches to then-No. 4 Georgia, then-No. 25 Texas Tech and then-No. 13 Michigan and are 2-2 in road matches this season.

Memphis has one ranked singles player in No. 54 Ryan Peniston.

Last time out, BU improved to 8-0 at home with two 7-0 sweeps over Abilene Christian last Saturday. BU is riding a 10-match home winning streak dating back to last season.

BU appeared at No. 32 in the latest ITA rankings but rose one spot to No. 13 in the newest USTA College Tennis Top 25 poll. BU is 1-2 against ranked opponents this season.
